Easy Beef Stroganoff recipe

This simple version of a classic beef stroganoff is ideal for serving to the whole family for dinner. Spoon it over tagliatelle or rice to serve. Though this is an oven recipe, it can easily be adapted to the slow cooker - simply put all the ingredients in on a low heat and cook for 6-8 hours.

Ingredients:

  • 600g stewing steak
  • 1 400g can condensed mushroom soup
  • 200ml milk
  • 200g mushrooms
  • 2 onions
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 150g cream cheese
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp. mixed herbs
  • 50g soured cream

Method of Preparation:

  1. Finely slice the onions and mushrooms and chop the steak into chunks. Mince the garlic cloves.

  2. Place the onions, mushrooms, steak, garlic, mushroom soup, milk, herbs and Worcestershire sauce in a large casserole dish. Cover with a lid or foil.

  3. Put into a 180C oven and cook for 2 hours, then turn down to 150C and cook for another 2-3 hours, stirring every hour or so. An hour before the end of cooking, stir in the cream cheese to dissolve.

  4. To serve, spoon soured cream over each portion.

For extra flavour, add a splash of white wine and omit a little milk. You could also add a tbsp. of vinegar. This recipe serves six people.

This was very nice, and made the whole house smell great while it was cooking. I left out the Worcestershire sauce and also think it would be ok with less onion. Served with rice.
